چکیده

This paper is a brief review of the program initiated some years ago in [JMP]. The main goal of this program is to understand the formation and the propagation properties of surface states in regions with corrugated boundaries. The history of this problem and its physical aspects are discussed in [JMP, KP]. The results described in this review are obtained in collaborations with Yoram Last and Stanislav Molchanov. I am grateful to Leonid Pastur and Barry Simon for many useful discussions on the subject of this review.

Spectral ultraviolet albedo of roofing surfaces and human facial exposure.

Spectral field measurements were used to quantify the ultraviolet (UV) spectral albedos of four different metallic roofing surfaces. The effect of the albedos of two of these surfaces on erythemal exposure to human facial anatomical sites was quantified by UV dosimetry. The albedos of all roofing surfaces were greater than the albedo of grass. Little SZA dependence was observed for any of the s...

Diffraction of homogeneous and inhomogeneous plane waves on a doubly corrugated liquid/solid interface.

This paper extends the theory of the diffraction of sound on 1D corrugated surfaces to 2D corrugated surfaces. Such surfaces, that are egg crate shaped, diffract incoming sound into all polar directions, which is fundamentally different from 1D corrugated surfaces. A theoretical justification is given for extending the classical grating equation to the case of incident inhomogeneous waves, for ...

Wetting of an Ising system with perfect and corrugated surfaces in a transverse field

Using the mean field theory, a comparative study of the wetting and layering transitions of a spin-1/2 Ising model with perfect and corrugated surfaces, is established. The phase diagrams are investigated and compared in the presence of both a longitudinal and surface fields. The effect of increasing the temperature and the transverse field on the wetting and layering transitions is outlined. —...

Investigating the effect of magnetic field on the forced convection of cross-corrugated triangular channels

Cross-corrugated triangular channels increase heat transfer in heat exchangers. The mixing effect increases the heat transfer coefficient at the surfaces. In this study, the fluid flow and heat transfer in a triangular corrugated channel are modeled under two constant heat fluxes and different Reynolds numbers. In order to validate, k-ω turbulence model is used. Also, the effect of magnetic fie...

Love Wave Propagation in a Fiber-reinforced Layer with Corrugated Boundaries Overlying Heterogeneous Half-space

Love-type wave generation in a fiber-reinforced medium placed over an inhomogeneous orthotropic half-space is analysed. The upper and lower boundary surfaces of the fiber reinforced medium are periodically corrugated. Inhomogeneity of half-space is caused by variable density and variable shear modules. Displacement components for layer and half-space are derived by applying separable variable t...
